A Review of the First Impressions Proces

The Simulated Interview:

The session will open with a short consultation during which you will share your current situation and career goals with your consultant. You can provide your resume, describe the position you seek, and the company you are targeting.

You may point out any areas of weakness in your profile so that your consultant can be careful to probe you on them. You may provide job-specific or industry specific questions that you would like to practice fielding. And, you have the option of practicing salary negotiation during the interview. For the purposes of the simulation, assume that you would like to receive a salary of “100,” and your interviewer will be offering a salary of “80”.

Following the consultation, your consultant will assume the role of the interviewer and begin the simulated interview. Your consultant will ask you questions drawn from traditional interviewing formats as well as questions from more modern interviewing formats.

At the end of the interview, you will fill out a self-reflection form to note how you felt during the interview and identify any areas of discomfort or weakness, while your consultant fills out a feedback form on your performance

Feedback

During the feedback session, you may share your feelings about the experience, and the consultant will share his/her impression of your interviewing style. He/she will identify your areas of strength, as well as any areas where you may better present yourself or better articulate your answers. The consultant will provide you with a detailed list of behaviors you exhibited, or failed to exhibit, which you may take home with you.

Redo of Challenging Questions

Based on the feedback discussion, you and your consultant will identify areas where you may benefit from practice. Your consultant will then redo these parts of the interview and give you the opportunity to try a new approach - and provide you with on-going feedback and coaching.

Where to Meet

You will arrange to meet your consultant at a location of mutual convenience for the simulated interview. You may dress as you would for a real interview, and get feedback on your professional appearance, or you may dress casually. You will recognize your consultant as the person with a grey folder. You will pick up the tab for the coffee or soft drinks.

Payment

You have the option of paying on-line by credit card (see below) or by check. You may cancel up to one day before the session and be entitled to a full refund or the option of rescheduling. If you pay by check, we must receive your check before the scheduled session: mail it to us at 22 Prince Street, #318, New York NY 10012.
